Welcome to the magnificent Kalawewa National Park, a recent addition to Sri Lanka’s prestigious list of National Parks. This extraordinary sanctuary is home to the largest population of majestic tuskers on the entire island. In this remarkable setting, tuskers often join the herd temporarily, driven by their natural instincts to copulate and ensure the survival of their precious genes for future generations. However, this can lead to intense territorial battles among the musth males, as they fiercely compete for dominance and the opportunity to pass on their valuable legacy.Sadly, the Kalawewa area is not without its challenges. The delicate balance between humans and elephants is often disrupted, resulting in frequent and devastating conflicts. Both parties suffer heavy losses in these unfortunate encounters, highlighting the urgent need for conservation efforts and sustainable solutions.
