We were informed of the presence of a nesting site of the Grey Hornbill, an indigenous bird species of Sri Lanka, in Nekaththegama, in close proximity to Wilpattu. Upon arrival at the location, it was discovered that the nest was situated in close proximity to the Puttalam-Anuradhapura Road. The residents residing opposite to the nest graciously permitted us to utilize their garden upon being apprised of our purpose. The male and female birds were observed frequently tending to their offspring. Regrettably, upon revisiting the site the following day, it was discovered that one of the birds had perished after colliding with a bus.
